Reception for our October art show opening featuring Jennifer Utley & Nicolle Farup.
It will be a month of photography with two very different styles of portraiture:
Jennifers' work is comprised of scenes featuring her rare & often unsettling toy collection. It will most certainly strike a chord with all of us that are gearing up for Halloween this year.
Nicolle's portraits are a more intimate look at the people and places in her life.
Jennifer Utley moved to Portland, OR in 1997 after completing her B.F.A. in printmaking and Master's in Education(Art Therapy) in Detroit, Michigan. She currently spends her days cutting hair at Rudy's Barbershop and her free time is spent in her yard with her Lensbaby and toys.
"Look Left" is a selection of portraits by Nicolle Farup shot between 1997 and 2007. During the 1990's, she was never without a camera, often torturing her friends by capturing some of their worst and most beautiful moments. After moving to Portland in 2000, she quit shooting after buying, like so many others, an old house, spending every dime and waking moment either at work or fixing something. In 2006, with the house basically functioning, she realized life was too short and picked up her camera again
Nicolle studied at The Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle and counts Robby Müller and Eugene Richards as influences for this collection and much of her work.
