Matt Martin's paintings are combination of vivid color, raw abstract spontaneity, and sharp contrasts of literal subject matter. His recent work continues his investigation into the visual clash between 'nature', 'technology', and the ‘human condition’. Often referencing past ages and geologic epochs in combination with aspects of modern industrial skylines, Matt’s work is heavily process oriented, using a variety of materials and techniques, from drawing and painting, to collage and silkscreen, creating personal interpretations of, and reactions to, the world around him while maintaining a level of accessibility for the viewer that is both fun and engaging. Matt is a west coast native and Northwest resident, who doesn’t quite remember when he started drawing and making pictures. As a kid he was deep into comics and skateboards: two influences that remain persistent today, while fine art in general was a natural motivations to earn a BFA in painting in 2002.
